My manager's agreed I can have a coach - what next?

Coaching is demonstrated to increase motivation and impact. Your organisation recognises the value, and to maximise that, before you set off on your coaching journey follow 3 steps

1. Request an introductory call, google your coach and connect on LinkedIn

  1. In the call, ask questions about their experience and how it relates to areas you are interested in - eg industry sectors, managing senior relationships, inspiring teams

  2. If you don't know what coaching is, or have logistics questions, ask

  3. In this call you will get a feel for your coach, check you can trust them and sense a positive fruitful relationship. If you don’t come away enthused, ask for a different coach.

2. Reflect a little before your first formal coaching session. Your coach may have offered you some preparatory questions, or think about

  1. What do you enjoy in life and in work?

  2. What aspects are not going so well, that may need addressing? For example around work life balance, communications, or specific relationships.

  3. What is important to you?

3. Turn up on time, and ideally take a short break before your coaching session. Joining the session having stepped away from your day to day work and cleared your mind, means you can bring perspective, curiosity and an open mindset, which will increase insight and progress.

Coaching will be an exciting and rewarding experience - relax and enjoy it!
